Yuketen AW14 Pitti Preview
Mr. Yuki Matsuda’s label has now become a mandatory visit whenever I’m at Pitti. As a footwear aficionado, it’s hard not to drool when faced with Yuketen’s extensive collection, comprised of trademark designs that are constantly elevated to new levels, be it through subtle aesthetical tweaks or core construction techniques.
Although some particular models may be somewhat over the top for my personal taste, the common denominator for all things Yuketen is superb quality and craftsmanship. Starting with skilled artisans who resort to traditional construction techniques, up to the high-end materials and attention to detail, every single item transpires authenticity and love for the product (this goes for both shoes and accessories).
Some of my personal favourites included a beautiful derby shoe with ripple soles, available in supple leather and suede, along with an updated version of the Maine Guide Boot with silver Concho and hand-painted beads.

Kanye gives a lecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design
“ …I know that there’s more creativity to happen. And I know that there’s traditionalists that hold back the good thoughts and there’s people in offices that stop the creative people, and [who] are intimidated by actual good ideas.
I believe that utopia is actually possible – but we’re led by the least noble, the least dignified, the least tasteful, the dumbest, and the most political…”

Online Store - Coming Soon
I’m proud to announce that Beyond Fabric will soon feature its very own online store. After years of delivering quality content with a unique vision and emphasis on personal style, I felt the time had come to take the project to a new level. The store will carry on the blog’s legacy, introducing Beyond Fabric’s private label and collaborations, as well as upcoming portuguese designers and brands.
For me, it’s not only a way to materialize ideas into great garments and accessories, but also the culmination of a long-lasting dream. As usual you can expect an eclectic mix of styles, ranging from statement pieces up to everyday essentials and unique accessories.

Stamp of Approval: Carlos Santos Shoes
As much as you love clothing I believe it comes a time when for most items, a closer look at your wardrobe makes you feel that, for the time being, you’re well set. However, for me, there are a couple of pieces I just can’t seem to get enough of, be it for the desire to continuously increase the amount of possible combinations, or simply because their beauty has taken me over. In my case, I don’t think I could ever settle on the right amount of shoes…
While this is probably one of the classic controversial subjects for most married men, I must say that shoewise, I can definitely understand women. There’s something about shoes that turns them into pure works of art, especially the more you know about the process behind their construction: a handmade quality shoe is nothing shorter than art in its essence. This is why I’m (un)consciously drawn to them and constantly being surprised by new models and brands: one of my latest findings was Portugal’s very own Carlos Santos Shoes.
Established in 1942 and named after its mentor, Carlos Santos has been delivering luxury footwear for men ever since. Combining the finest high grade materials with years of experience and know how, along with an ever-growing desire to surpass customers’ (and their own) expectations, it has grown to be one of the most renowned portuguese shoemakers. Its goal? Deliver the finest luxury footwear, making use of state-of-the-art techniques, all without straying from its roots and core universe. Based of the values of perfection, craftsmanship, tradition and timelessness, Carlos Santos is the perfect example of Portuguese shoemaking excellence, with over 70 years of experience resulting in unique pieces that develop a strong emotional connection with those who wear them. For all this it receives Beyond Fabric’s stamp of approval!
