I’m pretty sure that one of the things that keeps portuguese people going with (sort of) a smile on their faces is our climate. With ‘Xmas at the door we’re still enjoying beautiful sunny days that drive you to make the most of your city. Embracing the Holidays’ spirit, I teamed up once again with luxury footwear manufacturer Carlos Santos to celebrate traditional seasonal shades showcased through some of their outstanding models. Needless to say that the first roundup is focused on green…
Portraying a distinctive shade highlighted by the soft suede uppers, these ankle boots are definitely one of a kind. Its classic last and construction with leather soles, insoles and lining is perfectly balanced by the unique color, along with details such as contrast stitching and laces. This makes them suitable to wear on a variety of occasions and with different looks, ranging from denim up to a bolder suited attire. Here I incorporated them into a semi-formal ensemble, a personal favourite that will hardly let you be caught off-guard in any given occasion.
I’ve said it before, but I definitely believe green is one of the most underrated colors in menswear…it works perfectly with blue and grey and adds an unexpected feel to the whole look. Picking on the shades of the boots, the green striped shirt pairs beautifully with the navy cashmere tie and blackwatch scarf, while the timeless shawl collar cardigan adds some texture and contrast.
Details: wool shawl collar cardigan by Tommy Hilfiger, MTO green striped shirt, worn-out Levi’s 501, suede ankle boots by Carlos Santos, vintage tortoise shades, reversible blackwatch scarf by Coisas d’Homem, cashmere tie by Massimo Dutti, socks by Paul Smith and bracelets by Viola Milano.

Royal Hem AW13 Lookbook
Another outstanding collection from Royal Hem, this time paying tribute to London’s Tweed Run. British elegance is combined with Italian tailoring and craftsmanship, to deliver a perfect blend of styles that carry on the label’s unique aesthetic of informal luxury.
I believe accessories are the ultimate complement to any attire: be it on the more casual or formal side of things, there are always small details that can elevate your image to new levels. Jewelry in particular, has experienced a rampage growth in popularity during recent years, with more and more men sporting bracelets, strings, and such. As experience has shown, the trick to pulling it off is avoid going overboard and try to keep things simple and well balanced.
A while back I got in touch with Madlords, a french retailer/ art gallery specialized in men’s luxury accessories. A haven for menswear aficionados, the project run by Serge and Caroline Muller brings together a carefully curated selection of artisans, providing an ever-evolving pool of creative talents. Embodying the very essence of luxury, each item is crafted in very limited series and using only the most precious and rare materials, with a strong emphasis on authenticity. Combining their unique skills and keen eye for discovering talents, Serge and Caroline manage to deliver an unseen selection of jewelry, eyewear, scarves and leather goods, easily incorporated into a variety of styles. Whether you’re looking for discretion or to stand out amidst the crowd, chances are you’ll come across it by browsing their alternatives.
Stamp of Approval: Carlos Santos Shoes
As much as you love clothing I believe it comes a time when for most items, a closer look at your wardrobe makes you feel that, for the time being, you’re well set. However, for me, there are a couple of pieces I just can’t seem to get enough of, be it for the desire to continuously increase the amount of possible combinations, or simply because their beauty has taken me over. In my case, I don’t think I could ever settle on the right amount of shoes…
While this is probably one of the classic controversial subjects for most married men, I must say that shoewise, I can definitely understand women. There’s something about shoes that turns them into pure works of art, especially the more you know about the process behind their construction: a handmade quality shoe is nothing shorter than art in its essence. This is why I’m (un)consciously drawn to them and constantly being surprised by new models and brands: one of my latest findings was Portugal’s very own Carlos Santos Shoes.
Established in 1942 and named after its mentor, Carlos Santos has been delivering luxury footwear for men ever since. Combining the finest high grade materials with years of experience and know how, along with an ever-growing desire to surpass customers’ (and their own) expectations, it has grown to be one of the most renowned portuguese shoemakers. Its goal? Deliver the finest luxury footwear, making use of state-of-the-art techniques, all without straying from its roots and core universe. Based of the values of perfection, craftsmanship, tradition and timelessness, Carlos Santos is the perfect example of Portuguese shoemaking excellence, with over 70 years of experience resulting in unique pieces that develop a strong emotional connection with those who wear them. For all this it receives Beyond Fabric’s stamp of approval!
