CAMO AW14 Pitti Preview
Inspired by the city lights, Stefano Ughetti managed to deliver yet another impressive collection, marked by the influence of urban colors on both new and trademark models. A strong emphasis was given to knitwear, presented in a variety of patterns, textures and shades, while making the best of luxurious fabrics and construction. A shout out to the beautiful speckled effects which embody the sight of an urban environment by night.
Suiting is always one of the most appealing offerings from the Italian label, which manages to deliver a tailored take on casual models through its fitted blazers and low crotch trousers: this time around, beautiful tweed and heavy wool was used to portray a unique wintery feel.

For the second entry on the Holidays’ collaboration with Carlos Santos, I took it downtown to showcase a seasonal, yet essential shade on every man’s footwear collection: burgundy. A beautiful variation on the traditional use of black and brown, this rich color portrays a unique regal feel and elegance that sets it apart from the rest. Seamlessly blending into a variety of ensembles, burgundy shows an uncanny versatility, covering a wide range of models including boots, loafers, oxfords and brogues. On this occasion I went with the latter…
This interpretation of the timeless brogue features outstanding perforated detailing on the uppers, highlighted by the sheer quality of the leather and the richness of the wine-like shade. The elongated last with slightly round toe adds to the overall elegance of the shoe, enhanced by the leather soles, insoles and lining as well as the contrasting grey laces. I must say that along with derbies, brogues are probably the shoes I wear the most, be it with suits, slacks or just a pair of jeans. Here I kept the core look quite simple, pairing them with charcoal wool pants, white oxford button down and a brownish tweed aviator jacket. Accessories such as the vintage scarf and suspenders portraying hints of burgundy, add visual interest and help the whole outfit stand out.

For me, one of the most interesting aspects of colder days is the variety of outfit combinations they allow. Layering is not only a necessary technique to fend off cold, but also one of the most creative ways to explore your wardrobe and come up with unique styles. Although there are some rules to be kept in mind, both for aesthetic and functional purposes, I find myself constantly trying to bend them and invert traditional layering elements.
In this particular case, which of course is not suitable for harsh climate, I aimed to explore different uses for essential garments such as the v-neck cashmere sweater, popover shirt and tweed vest, all while maintaining a mix of casual and polished elements. More often than not, the v-neck would find its place as an outer layer with the tweed vest being worn under a blazer or topcoat; here I went for a different approach wearing the sweater over a tee, the popover shirt as an outer layer and the vest as outerwear. The polished nature of the vest, sweater and wool slacks are broken down by the chambray shirt and camo sneakers. Accessories such as the pocket square and paisley scarf complete the look.
