Much has been said about love brands: those with an uncanny ability to connect with consumers and develop a unique relationship and history. For me, a perfect example is Tuscany based family brand BUTTERO: undoubtedly one of my favourite footwear labels, this is one of the stands I never miss while at Pitti. What can I say? Buttero has earned a special place in my heart, not only due to closely working with it and accompanying its evolution while working back at Por Vocação, but also because simply put, it produces some of the most unique models out there. Resorting to the most luxurious vegetable tanned leathers and remaining true to its origins, there’s a trademark craftsmanship and authenticity in everything they deliver. Stopping by their stand is a treat in every way, not only do I get a glimpse of upcoming creations (which already account for more than half of my shoe collection), but I also get a chance to keep up with my friends Luca, Massimiliano and Don.
CAMO by my good friend and designer Stefano Ughetti is another must see at the fair. Bringing an unconventional twist to traditional menswear essentials, especially in what regards suiting, Stefano always manages to deliver outstanding collections with a few trademark statement pieces in the mix. His unique approach was further recognized during last Pitti Uomo, with one of the suits being selected for Angelo Flaccavento’s “Vestirse da Uomo” exhibit. Stay tuned for their alternative live performances held within the Fortezza’s premises…
Next on my list of brands for Pitti Uomo is Eleventy. With Mr. Marco Baldassari at its helm, the brands embodies his own vision of style, portraying a blend of polished and casual garments in the most perfect balance. For me, Eleventy is all about looking good while keeping things simple, with a unique Italian panache, of course. This trademark aesthetic is one that values quality, originality and love for the beauty of simplicity, leaving out everything that might compromise it through exaggeration.
Now that Pitti is one week away, the thought of reuniting with friends and all those outstanding brands is simply amazing. Among the unique labels showing at each of the pavillions, some are definitely becoming a priority on my route. As such, I thought it would be interesting to share with all of you which ones I’m looking forward to visit the most…
In no particular order, the first up is 1ST PAT-RN. Having my good friend Cristiano Berto and his brother Alessio (tailor extraordinaire) as mentors, these military inspired garments are truly one of a kind. To give you a small glimpse of what to expect, here are some scans from its SS13 lookbook.
