Orley SS14 Lookbook
I first met the trio behind Orley during Pitti Uomo 83 and couldn’t help to be amazed by their outstanding knitwear offerings (they were showing AW13 at the time). The american based, italian made label is an expert when it comes to knitwear, incorporating highly advanced techniques into sweaters, cardigans and jackets. For SS14, the brand presents yet another refreshing and irreverent approach, expanding the collection to incorporate tailored trousers and relaxed pleated shorts.
Eleventy SS14 Pitti Preview
After following Mr. Baldassari’s label for quite some time, I must say expectations were high for Eleventy’s upcoming collection: thankfully, they were not only met, but actually surpassed. Presenting a well balanced collection, Eleventy once again managed to deliver all-round pieces, perfect for polished everyday attires, with a unique panache. I guess the most appealing element for me is its core “casual meets sophisticated” essence, a trademark element that makes it easy for you to resonate with particular pieces, no matter which style you favor the most.
This time around, everything revolved around lightweight, comfortable fabrics, able to adjust to different body shapes. Tailored sports coats, hoodies and gilets mixed with washed jeans and chinos, exuded a contemporary urban feel achieved through unique layering; supple perforated suede bomber jackets made for perfect outerwear alternatives, while a wide range of accessories and shoes complemented the whole offering.

Farfalla Tasseled Suede Slippers
During my last visit to Pitti I was fortunate enough to bump into Farfalla’s showroom while roaming through the amazing garment-filled spaces. The thing that immediately caught my eye when faced with the outstanding handcrafted slippers and loafers, was the array of available colors and patterns in luxurious suede, velvet and canvas. There was something special about its unique mix of classic models with bold, up to date detailing and colors. A few months and emails later, they were kind enough to send me a pair of suede slippers from their upcoming SS13 collection which landed at my door just last week.
The best part about the whole process, besides knowing I would be getting an amazingly crafted pair of shoes, was the fact I had no idea which model they would choose: call it an early ‘Xmas gift. Needless to say I was blown away after opening that box: smooth suede uppers in rich green, with braided leather and suede tassels… couldn’t have chosen them better myself. Quality is visible in all the materials used, with the leather lined interiors and soft insoles providing a comfortable, lightweight feel.
I’ve been eagerly waiting for the rain to go away so I can sport them in all their elegance, but until then I’ll just have to wait…
Farfalla SS13 Preview - Pitti Uomo
Italian brand Farfalla has been producing quality handmade footwear since 1955. Sharing their love for slippers, the Raffaeli family has been passing on the shoemaking tradition and company values through generations, up until Stefano and Nicola current managers and the family’s third generation. Presenting some solid models for SS13 in woven leather, velvet and suede, as well as a few bolder ones sporting multicolored patchworks, design and tradition come together in the best possible way…
Boglioli spread collar shirts
When you hear the name “Boglioli” you immediately come up with an image in your mind of exquisitely tailored unstructured sports jackets: indeed, that’s their trademark. However, this often overlooked Italian label cannot, by any means, be summed up by jackets alone. I’ve been following their collections for quite some time now, and truth be told, the amazing craftsmanship, cut and fabrics are carried on to every item they produce.
For me, one of the pieces that definitely deserves some attention is their spread collar shirts, especially those of Spring/Summer collections. Usually made of a blend of cotton and linen, and combining some interesting plays on pattern and color, along with quality details, these make for the perfect Summer shirt: lightweight, breathable and exuding that rugged Italian feel.
