Urban Camo

One of the best ways to incorporate camo into your outfits is to slowly work it through small accessories such as pocket squares or ties, and then transition to larger accessories or garments, where the print’s visual impact grows proportionally. This backpack from Herschel has one of the most appealing camo prints I’ve seen lately, perfectly blended with contrasting leather details, which set the mood for the whole look. The vintage camel suede bomber was the perfect match for those green shades and leather highlights…

Sharp Florals

There’s no need to go over about how florals have been killing it lately. By now, you’ve all seen hundreds of variations on the theme in every SS12 collection. While I already owned a couple of alternatives, I have a hard time saying no to Our Legacy especially when they deliver a capsule collection with such an outstanding version. The darker shade adds an elegant feel and the pattern is perfect in both color and scale.

Spring Check in

It seems lately everything is about patterns: stripes, florals, surf inspired motifs or even wilder prints such as the ones from Gitman and Our Legacy latest drops, there’s a hype about which one is trendiest and what garments to sport them in. Although I’m a sucker for many of this season’s offerings I have to admit that checks still do, and have done so for me ever since their popularity boom about 3/4 years ago. There’s just something about a well balanced checked patterned that makes it both timeless and up to date, granting it a place in everyone’s wardrobe for years to come. This shirt by Our Legacy was love at first sight and has become the only short sleeve version in my wardrobe so far; the brilliant color scheme makes it perfect with denim and khakis while its casual feel allows to sport it over a tee. The polka dot pocket square on the trucker jacket opposes its relaxed nature and adds yet another pattern to the mix…

Rome: day 4

Despite the mixed opinions regarding cargo pants I have to say they won me over, especially if we’re talking about slim fitting alternatives. Cucinelli is king when it comes to cargos (and so many other things), but until I can afford to dish out +€450 for a pair of pants, this version by Uniqlo is the next best thing. Plus, when you’re traveling those extra pockets definitely come in handy. Some basic layering on top with an oxford button down, cardigan and timeless denim trucker adds texture, color and visual interest. However, the whole look is focused on the vintage white knit tie I got the day before at a flea market for €1; white is the last color I would ever consider purchasing a tie in, and I probably wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the price, but the truth is it actually works great with darker shades.

Details: denim trucker jacket by Levi’s, navy merino wool cardigan by Purificacion Garcia, dark green oxford button down shirt by Ralph Lauren, khaki slim fit cargos by Uniqlo, brown/navy suede boat shoes by Buttero, sunglasses by Ray-Ban, vintage wool knit tie, vintage braided leather belt, watch by Gucci, socks and scarf by H&M.

Rome: day 3 - Vintage finds

After checking all the high end labels located in Via Condotti and Veneto, we indulged on one of my favourite hobbies: vintage shop browsing. I can get lost for hours in these places and Rome was a pleasant surprise, offering a great selection of pieces at affordable prices and some of the nicest people I’ve ever met (more on that later). I’ve been looking for a suede bomber for a while and this one immediately caught my eye hanging amidst waxed Barbour jackets and Burberry trenches: mint condition, snug fit, outstanding camel shade and a €65,00 price tag, perfect. Paired with white jeans it’s a tough one to beat…green sweatshirt for that contrast shade and an unexpected twist with the burgundy scarf creating an extra layer at the waist. Not to be worn everyday, but it’s nice to experiment and think out the box for a change…

Rome: 1st day

Deciding on what to pack for a week long getaway while fulfilling Ryanair’s cabin luggage requirements can prove to be a real pain in the ass. Faced with a miniature trolley and a 10kg weight limit, you better plan ahead: my selection was comprised of a knit cardigan, a couple of v-neck sweaters, oxford shirts, jeans and cargo pants, a camel peacoat, ties, sneakers, boat shoes and loafers. Carefully packed, I managed to get several different looks and still save some space for some “unexpected” shopping. The first day was also the hottest, so a simple combination of Levi’s with an oxford button down and sneakers did the trick. The military tucked regimental tie works perfectly with rolled up sleeves and the cotton shopper, besides light, was enough to carry around my belongings.

Details: pink candy striped oxford button down by Our Legacy, jeans by Levi’s (511 slim - tailored), dark green leather sneakers by Buttero, aviators by Ray-Ban, regimental silk tie by Ralph Lauren, cotton shopper by Driftwood Collective, vintage braided leather belt, bracelet by street vendor and watch by Gucci.

Spring Tweed

Although tweed is, in its essence, a wintery fabric, its amazing texture and feel shouldn’t be restricted to one season alone. During transition periods as the one we’re currently experiencing, you’ll be facing colder days when the comfort and panache of a tweed blazer is unmatched. I found this vintage double breasted version at Broadway Market, London, for €30,00 and fell in love with instantly, plus no alterations were needed. Thrown over a shirt and a lightweight cardigan is the perfect alternative for colder days. Worn out slim fitting jeans, black cap toe oxfords and a cashmere scarf make for the rest of the look.

Details: vintage double breasted tweed blazer, slim fit dress shirt by Throttleman, lightweight cotton cardigan by H&M, Levi’s 511 slim (tailored), cap toe oxford shoes by Raparo, socks by Paul Smith and cashmere scarf by Burberry.

Spring Showers

There’s a reason why every “Spring Essentials List” has a lightweight technical or waxed parka in it. Despite the outstanding last couple of days, the season has a special way of catching you off guard as we’re still in for several rainy days, the so called spring showers. Although waterproof technical fabrics are a great alternative, I can’t help to be drawn by the look and feel of waxed garments and mind you, Barbour is not the only way to go. This olive waxed cotton parka by Our Legacy is a favourite, lightweight and unlined, it’s perfect to throw over a shirt and cardigan when low temperatures are not an issue. Besides the parka which is a statement piece by itself, l love how all the little details come together: the shirt and cardigan shades complement the paisley on the tie and the boots and belt match the adjustable leather drawstrings on the parka.

Details: waxed cotton parka by Our Legacy, contrast club collar shirt (custom made) by Gentleman, cashmere houndstooth elbow patched cardigan by Annapurna 5+1, Levi’s 511 slim (tailored), waxed leather portuguese boots, black tortoise aviators by Linda Farrow Luxe, paisley cotton tie by Tie Rack and braided leather belt by Acne.
