Herro by Meerstein AW14 Pitti Preview
Luxury can be perceived in a number of ways, depending on one’s personality, culture and social-economical context. According to those and other variables, luxury may be futile for some or easily achievable through minor everyday events. While for me, material aspirations have assumed a secondary role of allowing me to enjoy life to its fullest, I must admit that luxurious fabrics such as cashmere still hit a soft spot in my heart. That being said, it’s no surprise Herro by Meerstein has become a personal favourite right from the start…
On the commemoration of its 105th anniversary working with some of the most renowned and high-end labels and personalities in the industry, Meerstein launched Herro by Meerstein: the brand’s first approach to RTW menswear with AW14 being its debut collection. After meeting Vram and Sara, the couple behind the brand, it was clear that we had more in common than just a mutual friend (José Cabral): the passion for outstanding garments in superbly soft cashmere. Delivering a well-balanced collection aimed at suiting an array of distinct occasions and turning cashmere into a more democratic, everyday alternative, the collection portrayed several models including classic overcoats in single and double breasted versions, short jackets and even an amazing overshirt (on the list).
Most models feature versatile and well-thought details, such as removable astrakhan or fur collars, minks linings and my personal favourite: exchangeable back belts on the overcoats, ranging from classic up to more playful approaches. The fit and design were spot on, with soft rounded shoulders or more pronounced versions, flattering silhouettes and of course, the exquisite comfort and feel of high quality cashmere. Definitely a newcomer to keep an eye out for…
