Beyond Fabric x Coisas d’Homem

I really love what the guys over @ Coisas d’Homem have been doing since they first opened their store in 2009. Their devotion to menswear accessories has placed them high up on the list of Porto’s men’s stores, becoming the place to go for original, one of a kind add-ons. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll most likely have seen some of their pieces, as most of my bowties were purchased there:

I’ve been wanting to work with them for a while now, and I’m proud to announce that the results of our first collaboration are almost ready for the debut! Carrying on our mutual passion for bowties this exclusive line will feature 4 styles in different fabrics, all in their successfully functional pre-tied version, for added comfort and instant flamboyance. Although the fabric used in each style is the same, each bow is unique as different cuts of the fabric are used, resulting in singular patterns and textures.

Keep an eye out as the styles will soon be available for purchase here at the blog!!

Driving gloves

I must say I’m one of those persons who suffers with low temperatures…As I’ve stated before, amongst my Winter essentials you’ll always find a pair of gloves and a cap. In fact, gloves are one of those items which have slowly grown on me during the past few years…I’ve come to appreciate their elegance and the complementing effect they have on an outfit.

One of the models which has seen an increasing burst in popularity is definitely the driving glove. As the name states, this variety was originally used by race car drivers as a means to protect the hands and increase grip on the steering wheel. Also available in fingerless versions, the driving glove is easily recognizable by its distinct features: perforated leather for extra breathability, open sockets on knuckles and back, and an adjustable snap fastening, which besides securing the glove in place, would originally adapt to the driver’s chronograph, ensuring a clear view.

The thing about this type of gloves is that they may seem a bit too pretentious if you’re caught anywhere else but coming off of your ride…However, when your hands are not at risk of freezing and with the current amount of touch operated gadgets (Ipad, Iphone, tablets and don’t forget cameras), they might prove to be a valuable option.

Going green…

Over the last few months I’ve developed a growing passion for green. Previously an almost nonexistent tone in my wardrobe, I have been becoming fonder of its versatility and stylish appeal, which led me to purchase a few new items and dig up others that had been stored away for a while…

Darker shades of green (hunter comes to mind) have been the order of the day in many Fall/Winter collections this year, making a stand as a great alternative to the traditional color palette of blues, browns, grays and blacks. It’s a perfect match for your slim fitting dark blue jeans, grey slacks or khakis, adding interest and richness to your overall look.

This look is all about mixing and matching pieces from different backgrounds and styles, such as the vintage Harris Tweed blazer purchased at Portobello market in London, the military inspired hooded shirt and the brown tasseled loafers. I love trying to come up with new combinations and uses for my pieces, such as pulling off the double shirt look by using the military shirt as an overshirt, which worked out great since its adjustable button closure allows me to perfectly frame the woolen tie and decide how much to show. Also, the use of two plaid patterns in different scales (blazer and tie) adds that extra bit of flare and visual appeal to the whole attire.

Vintage Harris Tweed blazer, military hooded shirt by Osklen, white oxford button down by Ralph Lauren, dark blue jeans by Levi’s (511 Slim), brown tasseled loafers by Lottusse, plaid woolen tie by Coisas d’Homem, watch by Gucci and socks by H&M.
