On the list #2 - Buttero Footwear
Nostalgia: Por Vocação AW09 Looks #1
Having the opportunity to work at former high-end menswear retailer Por Vocação was definitely a life-changing experience for me. Besides being my first fashion related gig, it allowed me to work with an amazing team with whom I learned a lot and bore a strong influence in defining my personal take on menswear.
Their unique take on men’s style received international praise, so here are some wintery looks from the AW09 collections, including brands such as Margiela, Neil Barrett, Raf Simons, Paul Smith, Acne, Our Legacy, Giorgio Brato and Buttero.
Buttero x Por Vocação Window Display
Located at Corso Garibaldi in one of Milan’s most hyped districts, Buttero’s “flagship” store is a mandatory stop for everyone visiting the Italian fashion capital. In a recent collaboration with former menswear store turned creative marketing agency Por Vocação, the space now presents a unique window display resorting to vintage faceted backlit glass pieces, evoking the traditional craftsmanship of Murano glass.
Bringing together two very special brands, Por Vocação (my former employer) whose creative director is not only a good friend but a mentor as well and Buttero with whom I have been developing a growing relation based on our mutual love for footwear, this project definitely has a special meaning for me.
Buttero Goes Online
You all know Buttero holds a special place in my heart when it comes to footwear, so I couldn’t be happier to announce that their online shop is now live! Finally everyone will get a chance to get their hands on these outstanding models, be sure to check it here.
WIW Firenze Day 1
When you’re out in the open with 40ºC and not the slightest breeze, carrying a camera and shooting all those stylish individuals flying out to Firenze, just in time for Pitti, dressing up is definitely a challenge. While a tee and shorts might seem perfect for the job, pulling off a polished look with enough breathability and mobility to shoot, is not the easiest task. I’ve been praising the vest for a while now, and in fact, it’s just perfect to look put together with nothing more than a shirt underneath it. The combination of grey and army green is perfect, while the neck scarf adds some color to the whole look.
Details: linen vest by Zara, spread collar shirt by Millerighe, washed cotton pants by Boglioli, boat shoes by Buttero, aviators by Ray-Ban, vintage neck scarf, striped ring belt by Purificacion Garcia, watch by Daniel Wellington, bracelets by Viola Milano and local artisan.

Buttero SS14 Pitti Preview
It’s always a pleasure to meet my friends from Buttero to catch up with their latest developments. This time around, Luca and Massimiliano showed me around the SS14 collection, which besides evolutions on trademark classics such as the Tanino low and high-top, featured an array of new models. Introducing a new type of thicker rubber sole for the boat shoes and chukkas, along with new sneaker models and slippers, the result is a well balanced selection of casual/polished alternatives always maintaining that unique Buttero feel. New materials such as linen were used for the Taninos, while braided leather and supple suede were chosen for slippers, high-tops and chelsea boots. The latter by the way, are already on my wish list…
Much has been said about love brands: those with an uncanny ability to connect with consumers and develop a unique relationship and history. For me, a perfect example is Tuscany based family brand BUTTERO: undoubtedly one of my favourite footwear labels, this is one of the stands I never miss while at Pitti. What can I say? Buttero has earned a special place in my heart, not only due to closely working with it and accompanying its evolution while working back at Por Vocação, but also because simply put, it produces some of the most unique models out there. Resorting to the most luxurious vegetable tanned leathers and remaining true to its origins, there’s a trademark craftsmanship and authenticity in everything they deliver. Stopping by their stand is a treat in every way, not only do I get a glimpse of upcoming creations (which already account for more than half of my shoe collection), but I also get a chance to keep up with my friends Luca, Massimiliano and Don.
I must say I always struggle when asked to describe my personal style: although it’s undoubtedly influenced by my European roots (most often leaning towards an Italian aesthetic), it is also heavily inspired by a multitude of surrounding stimuli. To sum up, I would have to say something along the lines of modern European with an eclectic twist - not the easiest definition for sure, but one that allows me to accommodate the wide array of attires I often sport.
Eclectic being the word here, I came across this overlapped checked shirt while cruising Zara women’s department with my girlfriend. The unique Japanese inspired crossover design with mao collar and longer length at the back, along with the outstanding color combination instantly caught my attention. Of course I hesitated for a while, after all it was womenswear, but then I thought… why the hell not? I could definitely picture it worn as a lightweight overshirt during Summer, so here’s the outcome.
Details: overlapped checked shirt by Zara, crewneck tee and jeans by Levi’s, suede boat shoes by Buttero, shades by Linda Farrow Luxe, bracelets by Viola Milano and watch by Rolex.

It took us a while but the 2nd entry of the Beyond Fabric movie series is now up! Shot once again at our hometown of Figueira da Foz, Portugal, the focus is on a polished yet relaxed Summery attire, with Driftwood Collective’s brand new shop as background. Two distinct universes come together through our mutual love of beautiful things and creative concepts, but overall our friendship and brotherhood.
Details: Adam Kimmel cotton/silk peak lapel blazer, Boglioli checked cotton/linen shirt, CAMO cargo pants, Buttero suede boat shoes, Rolex GMT Master II, Viola Milano bracelets and Linda Farrow Luxe tortoise shades.
